Introduction

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was looking forward to watching skillful football as she welcomed visitors to the eighth World Cup at Wembley Stadium.
Ralf Ramsey had a rigid plan to win the World Cup over three years. Young goalkeeper Gordon Banks will play with Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, and Jimmy Greaves.
Harold Wilson flew back from Washington earlier than expected because the England football team had made it to the World Cup final. 

Queen Elizabeth presented the World Cup to Bobby Moore at Wembley in front of 90,000 fans. After watching the match, Callahan and Brown sang I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles. 

Harold Wilson told Alf Ramsey at the Royal Garden Hotel that winning the World Cup would be a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Harold Wilson never saw England win the World Cup again in his lifetime.

Brazil 1950

Getulio Vargas won the 1950 Brazilian general election after the military had deposed his government in 1945. Brazil was the first country to host the World Cup finals post World War 2. 

Italy was the holder defeating Hungary in the 1938 final. The Maracana stadium is shared by clubs Fluminense and Flamengo and was built for the 1950 World Cup. 

Flávio Costa’s Brazil beat Sweden 7-1 and Spain 6-1 in the Estadio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro in front of 138,000 fans and 152,000 fans respectively.

Clement Atlee was the leader of the Labour Party and served as prime minister. He created the NHS and nationalized industries. Walter Winterbottom's England entered the World Cup finals for the first time with a 2-0 win against Chile.

The next game caused the biggest upset in World Cup history when Joe Gaetians scored the only goal of the game for the United States. A strong performance against Spain in Rio de Janeiro lacked goals. Tommy Finney had two penalty shouts turned down. Telmo Zarra scored the only goal of the game for Spain.

 Brazil's climate is ideal for producing coffee beans tasting of Carmel, chocolate, and spice. Some of the most popular coffee shops in the UK use Arabica and Robusta beans to produce caramel cappuccino coffee. 

Rio de Janeiro is known for the Carnival and Samba dancing. The basic steps are right foot forward, left foot back, turn to the right and 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8.

Juan Lopez Fontana's Uruguay beat  Brazil in the final 2-1 at the Estadio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro in front of a 173,000 crowd. De Friaca broke the deadlock for Brazil, and Juan Schigffino equalized. Alcids Ghiggia's goal won the game for Uruguay.

The defeat is regarded as the biggest tragedy that ever happened in Brazil. George Reader was the first English person to referee a World Cup final.
 

Switzerland 1954

Switzerland is the home of lakes, Villages, clocks, chocolates, and the high peaks of the Alps. Visitors enjoyed Fondue: Gruyere: fontina, Gouda, Cup of wine, Corn starch, Lemon juice, Black pepper, Nutmeg, dips: Red-skinned potatoes, Pear slices, and Tuscan bread. 

Rodolphe Rubattel of the free democratic party was the president of the confederation. The Geneva conference signed three agreements about French Indo China that covered Cambodia. Laos and Vietnam.

 Winston Churchill was the leader of the Conservative Party and served as prime minister. He was removed from the Admiralty after a World War 1 naval bombardment went wrong in the Dardanelles, Turkey. 

One of the only politicians who wouldn’t surrender to the Germans in World War 2, Churchill crafted a plan. It would be impossible to invade England because of the rough sea tides. The plan worked exceptionally well. Winston Churchill became a national hero. Churchill became the prime minister again in 1951, producing a manifesto to build 300,000 houses.

Walter Winterbottom's England played Belgium in Basel. Stanley Matthews earned the team a well-deserved four-all draw. England defeated the host's Switzerland 2-0 and lost 4-2 to Uruguay in the Quarterfinal. Stanley Matthews went on to win the first Balon d'Or in 1956.

Despite Josef Hügi  scoring a  hatrick. Switzerland lost 7-5 in the quarter-final to Austria at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise Lausanne in front of 30,000 fans. The referee was Charlie Faultless of Scotland. 

Ferenc Puskás grew up playing football for Budapest in the hill's above the River Danube. He scored the opening goal for Hungary in the final, deemed one of the ultimate players of all time. Puskás was the first superstar scoring 84 goals in 85 international matches. West Germany hit back with a goal from Max Morlock and went on to win the 1954 World Cup 3-2.

Sweden 1958

Tage Erlander the Prime Minister of Sweden in 1958 and the leader of the Social Democratic Party won 111 of the 231 seats in the Andra Kammaren of the Riksdan. 

Sweden is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. It has a high standard of living and strong trade union associations. June daylight lasts for at least 16 hours. December can go down to 6 hours. 

Most of the largest salmon are in Sweden's rivers that flow into the Baltic Sea. Fishing has over a million people involved. Visitors enjoy Smoked salmon & Spinach gratin: Spinach, butter, Salmon fillets, and Double cream.

Sir Anthony Eden resigned as Prime Minister after Colonel Abdul Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal. England, France, and Israel tried to retake the canal. International condemnation by the United States, the Commonwealth, and the United Nations forced Anthony Eden to retreat.

Walter Winterbottom's England draw 2-2 with the Soviet Union. Brazil was the next team to meet England in a 0-0 draw. The final group game was a 0-0 draw against Austria. The Soviet Union beat England in the playoff 2-0.
The final held in the Råsunda Stadium, Stockholm was won by Brazil by five goals to two against Sweden.

Chile 1962

A strong earthquake struck Concepción and Puerto Montt relief and reconstruction was the top priority. The resulting tsunamis with a magnitude of 9.5 earthquake registered at 10 exajoules, struck Iquique, Santiago, Temuco, and Punta Arenas off the coast of Chile. The 26th President of Chile Jorge Alessandri oversaw the 1962 world cup finals. 

Walter Winterbottom's England defeated Argentina 3-1, drew with Bulgaria, and lost to Hungary 2-1. Garrincha scored twice for Brazil and knocked England out 3-1 in the quarterfinal. It was Walter Winterbottom's last game in charge of England after qualifying for four World Cup finals.

 Chile lost to Brazil in the quarter-final 4-2 in front of 76,000 fans in the Estadio Nacional, Santiago. Brazil went on to win their second consecutive World Cup by beating Czechoslovakia 3-1 in the final. 

Local food served after the final was Pastel de Choclo Corn and Beef Casserole: ground beef, onions, sweet paprika, ground cumin, flour, sweet corn, corn meal, and basil with a Cabernet Sauvignon Grown in Maipo Valley, taste like blackberries and currants. The palate is fruit flavors.
